I'm sneaking this entry in on my lunch break, since my day has exploded all over me. I guess that's what happens when you are late for work (unintentionally) and trying to leave on time. *sigh*

First of all, I am proud to say that Brent and I got the kitchen completely cleaned up last night!! We have been trying to get that little chore done since Sunday, without much success, mostly due to tiredness on my part and take-home work on his. Now its on the the laundry...

Now on to my review of Tin Man:

Brent and I watched the last part last night and our general comment on the show was: "It was OK, just OK". It was enjoyable but not something that we want to own or even see again. Brent liked it slightly more than I did but we both agree that the acting, with the exception of Richard Dreyfus as the Miracle Man and Alan Cummings as Glitch, was saddly lacking. There were also points where we felt that the script fell short. In my case, I simply couldn't accept it as an Oz story. I was an Oz freak as a small child and have read all the books still in print as well as some that haven't been in print since they were orginally published (thanks to a friend in high school). Dispite the attempts that they made to connect the story to the original movie, it lacked the joy and magic that I associate with Oz stories. It simply felt like a basic fantasy story with shiney steam-punk accents.

And I will admit that the steam-punk accents were great. I really loved the scenery, atmosphere and special effects. I did, however, miss the repressed sexuallity that I tend to associate with steam-punk stories. There was just not enough Victorian t&a for me, I guess. I also found myself waiting for the Sorceress' bauld-headed minions to start calling DG the "Kwisatz Haderach" for some reason. I guess they just gave off a David Lynch/Giedi Prime sort of vibe or something.

In the end, both Brent and I came to the conclusion, that while the mini series was not a waste of time, we would both rather have been watching The 10th Kingdom instead.

In other news, I have frogged the toes on my MIL's socks and am redoing them as wedge toes instead. I didn't like how the domed toes looked and they were actually too big. I redid one toe last night and am working on the second one today. I hopefully will have it finished by tonight, so that I can graft both socks on Thursday night. Then I have to figure out what I want to put on the needles next. I have one pair on size ones that I need to finish and a new pair on size 2s started but I will have a free pair of size 2s once I finish this pair and I'm hunting for a new pattern in that gauge. We'll just have to see what we find. The new issue of Knitty is up today and something there may pop out at me.

I couldn't decide if Tin Man was going to be good or not, so I decided to check out the first bit and then I'd decide. I only made it through the first 10 minutes. Ugh! It seemed rather cheesy to me and didn't keep my attention. Nice idea, I think, but poor execution.

To be honest, once I heard that it was done by the same people who did the "Flash Gordon" TV series, I didn't expect much, and I mostly got what I expected. It was at least a step up, but that isn't saying much.

Personally, it was a good reason to see Zooey Deschanel again.
