Somewhat weirded out

I got a call today from a recruiter, while I was at work. They were looking someone with an IT backround (definately not me) who could also do docketing. I have not bloody idea how they got my name, but they went through our switchboard to get to me (my phone tells me when the call is on an inhouse line). I'm very weirded out by this, since they were definately not looking for someone with library experience (which is my primary role in the office) and they seemed to think that I would just pack up and change jobs at the drop of a hat. And they called me at work.. WTF??

Am I crazy or does this happen to other people too? Brent has gotten calls from recruiters in the past, but usually as the result of an old resume he posted somewhere. I have not put out a resume in 3 years and my old one did not include docketing on it anywhere (that's a skill I picked at this firm).

This is just too weird...

That just happened to Brian recently too. Although at least that recruiter was calling him about jobs he'd likely want to do. I think with the economy slowing down that the recruiters are feeling the squeeze and any sembance of ethics they used to have a going right out the window. Gah!

It just seemed very tacky in tons of ways. And honestl, I'm not what they are looking for, so I have absolutely no idea on the Goddess' Green Earth how they got my name. I could understand being recruited for a library or research position (and I might have even listened to their pitch) but for IT? What are they smoking??

It's totally tacky. But the recruiters get paid if they put people in postions, regardless of whether or not the person stays there. So they're only incentive is to put people in jobs, and nothing else. There's a reason I refer to the recruiter who called up Brian this last winter a homewrecker :(

At my previous job, I had recruiters cold-call me at work. I assume that they either had numbers, or they went through the phone system and collected a bunch of names. I doubt they got that number from any references I gave out, because I never give my work number for that reason. Same goes with resumes.

One thing I found out is that some recruiters will do anything to fill positions that they have. I can't count the times that I've been asked by a recruiter if I knew other people who would be interested in a job I wasn't interested in.

I get recruitment calls from temp agencies asking for me, specifically.

This is strange because I've been at my current position for less than a year. And I work in the corporate accounting center for a major temp agency.
